Day 5
- Chame
Our last warm outdoor luncheon
for a long time
|
'Hearty welcome to Chame.' The banner's
message smacks of Nepalese officialdom which must rank in the
same league as the notoriously inefficient Indian bureaucracy.
The village of Chame, despite its isolated location high in
the mountains, is a distant outpost of the Kathmandu-centred
government. A cement chorten topped by a corrugated-tin roof
straddles the path. The original copper prayer wheels have been
stolen, replaced by empty tins inscribed not with prayers but
with instructions in Nepali on how to prepare instant powdered
milk.
