Access Tabular Databases related to the incident....
Locations on the EMIS maps can be attached to detailed tabular databases. For example, each hazardous materials facility symbol on this map is attached to information about the chemicals stored at that facility, the facility owner’s name and phone number, and other information of value during an emergency in that location.
Activate Predictive Modeling Programs....
Some emergency conditions are rapidly changing, such as the location of a spreading fire or expanding plume of toxic gas.
The EMIS can activate modeling programs that predict the movement of fires or gas plumes. Responders can then estimate their future resource needs and start evacuating citizens before they become critically endangered.
To see how the EMIS could support decision-makers in an actual emergency, OCIS, OES, and OPD staff have created an imaginary but possible hazardous materials spill scenario. As the incident unfolds, the hazardous materials response team, then the police, and finally the city managers office all request information from the EMIS. What they request (marked by a ?) and what the EMIS displays are both shown in the following storyboards....
